Queenslanders Greg Henwood and Thomas Lohan showed off their strength and prowess during the clean & jerk and snatch events at the second day of the fitness challenge competition held at the Runaway Bay Sports Super Centre this morning.

Greg, 45, from Redland Bay and Thomas, 46, from the Sunshine Coast were thrilled with their progress at the event’s debut with Thomas sitting in first position and Greg settling for fourth.

“The competition has been great so far and we’re really enjoying our time here on the Gold Coast,” Thomas said.

“You look around at all the age groups competing here today and sometimes you forget you’re competing at a masters games, which is fantastic.”

Both competitors congratulated each other after a solid hit out in the weightlifting round and despite having plenty of fun admitted there was a competitive undertone throughout all events.

“We are really competitive and we definitely want to win,” said Greg.

“I train four times a week at 5:30am in addition to a morning run on Saturdays as well as some lifting at night.

“It takes a lot of effort to train for an event such as this because we have to juggle other commitments such as full-time jobs.”

Greg has found that the sport has rejuvenated his enthusiasm for competition and helped him rediscover his body’s ability to be active once again.

“I first started two and a half years ago and since then I have lost close to 10 kilograms,” said Greg.

“The sport has helped me learn more about my body and has impacted me positively, not just in competition, but in every day life.

“It’s almost been a rehabilitation process for my former injuries and I believe I’m the fittest I’ve been in years.”

Thomas, who has received two knee reconstructions due to soccer injuries, admits that it’s not about winning every event but rather having a strong all-round ability.

“It’s important that competitors have the ability to perform strongly across all events because you’re ranked on a point system,” said Thomas.

“You could win a few events and still not go home with a gold medal because you’ve let yourself down in other events.

“It’s all about averaging yourself out over all events so you have the best chance to win overall.”

Tomorrow is the final day of the fitness challenge competition and will be held at the Runaway Bay Sports Super Centre from 9am to 4pm.

The new system was born here and filagra this is not something that we would like to see. Caverta although better in some elements but not important for us.
