West Australian women’s water polo team Triton was one of the first teams to compete in the redeveloped Gold Coast Aquatic Centre during the first day of the Jupiters Pan Pacific Masters Games competition.

The team, led by Olympian Danielle Woodhouse, have been playing the sport together on and off for the past 25 years and we’re thrilled to be back in the pool on the Gold Coast.

“After we won the reserve premiership competition in Perth recently, we thought it’d be a great excuse to get all the girls together again and compete on the Gold Coast,” said Danielle.

“We had some last minute inclusions to the team with some of the girls coming from the Northern Territory, the Australian Capital Territory and New South Wales but we’ve managed to fill a team.

“We’re naturally competitive people, so we’re here to have loads of fun and to hopefully also go home with a medal.”

Woodhouse, who was a part of the gold medal 2000 Sydney Olympic side, competed at the event in 2012 and says participating in water polo is integral in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

“I’ve been playing water polo since the age of 15 and it is my life,” said Danielle.

“The majority of my friends play the sport and it helps me keep a healthy and active lifestyle.

“It’s also about teaching my children that it is important to continue playing and competing in sport for as long as you can.”

The water polo competition continues tomorrow and on Sunday 2 November from 9am to 5pm.
