This year’s Pan Pacific Masters Games held from 1 – 9 November will host one of the biggest live entertainment programs in its history with an impressive line-up of Australian rock and roll royalty.
The Games Village at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre will transform into a live Pan Pacific Masters Games entertainment venue for more than 12,000 accredited competitors, officials and supporters over eight huge nights.
The program will be headlined by Australian rock icon and founding member of Cold Chisel, Ian Moss, who will perform on the opening night (Saturday 1 November) playing songs from his prolific solo career as well as classic Chisel hits.
Cold Chisel rose to fame during the 1970s and early 1980s with hits including ‘Bow River’, ‘Saturday Night’ ‘Khe Sanh’, ‘Flame Trees’, ‘Choir Girl’ and ‘When the War is Over’ and soon became one of Australia’s most cherished rock bands of all time.
Five years after the group disbanded in 1984, Ian Moss released his critically acclaimed debut solo album, ‘Matchbook’, which peaked at number one on the ARIA Album Chart and was preceded with the hit single ‘Tucker’s Daughter’. This success was acknowledged with Ian Moss winning 5 ARIA Awards.
Moss went on to release a further seven solo albums and joined Cold Chisel on a number of reunion performances which reinstated his status as one of Australia’s greatest guitarists. He continues to impress audiences in Australia and around the world with his energetic live performances and is guaranteed to kick-off the Pan Pacific Masters Games with a bang.
The party is set to continue on Wednesday 5 November with Absolutely 80s who will bring together some of the biggest and best Australian bands from the 1980s on stage together to perform their hits. The show will include Brian Mannix from Uncanny X-Men, Boom Crash Opera’s lead singer Dale Ryder, Kids in the Kitchen’s Scott Carne and Ally Fowler from The Chantoozies.
Brian Mannix, the extroverted front man of Uncanny X-Men, one of Australia’s most popular and outrageous bands of the 80s, will smash through hits including ‘The Party’, ‘Everybody Wants to Work’, ‘How Do You Get Your Kicks’ while Boom Crash Opera’s lead Dale Ryder is set to light up the Games Village with their Top 20 hits including ‘Onion Skin’, ‘Get Out of the House’ and ‘Dancing in the Storm’.
Scott Carne from the 80s new wave band, Kids in the Kitchen, will deliver high-octane performances of tracks from their platinum selling debut album ‘Shine’ including ‘Change in Mood’, ‘Bitter Desire’, ‘Current Stand’ and ‘Something That U Said’ followed by Ally Fowler from The Chantoozies who will round off the line-up with some chart-topping singles including ‘Witch Queen’, ‘Wanna Be Up’ and ‘He’s Gonna Step On You Again’.
Every other night of the week, a house band and resident DJ, will propel the celebrations well into the night.
Events Management Queensland CEO Cameron Hart said this year’s entertainment program is an exciting addition to the premier multi-sport event and is certain the event’s competitors, supporters and officials will soak up the party atmosphere each night.
“The Games Village provides an exclusive venue for our participants, supporters and officials to socialise and celebrate each night and we’re thrilled to provide them with such an amazing line-up of talent to help get the party going,” Mr Hart said.
“The entertainment program adds so much excitement and flare to the Pan Pacific Masters Games and we’re sure our attendees won’t be disappointed with the incredible atmosphere each night, in particular the opening and closing ceremonies.”
Assistant Minister for Tourism Gavin King said the entertainment line-up would provide an added drawcard for visitors to Gold Coast for the multi-sport event.
“The Pan Pacific Masters Games attracted more than 12,000 participants from more than 30 countries in 2012 with a superb entertainment line-up including Australian rock icon Ian Moss offering another fantastic reason for international visitors to attend the 2014 event,” Mr King said.
“The Queensland Government’s 20-year plan for tourism, Destination Success, outlines the importance of delivering events such as this which drive visitation to Queensland’s destination’s with many participants expected to stay on after the games to experience the ‘Famous for Fun’ Gold Coast.”

The 9th Pan Pacific Masters Games will be held on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia from 1 – 9 November 2014.
More than 12,000 participants from around the world will compete across in more than 40 sports and socialise each night at the Games Village. 2014 is the year to ‘Play it, Live it, Love it!’
