Bondi beach lifeguard Andrew ‘Reidy’ Reid has been announced today as an ambassador for next month’s Pan Pacific Masters Games on the Gold Coast.
The 39-year-old triathlete, fitness advocate and star of Bondi Rescue, will compete in the ocean swim and distance running events to motivate people over 30 to be active and enjoy the friendly competition.
“Exercise is one of the most important things we can do as human beings, especially as we get older, so it should be incorporated into every part of our day,” Reidy said.
“The Pan Pacific Masters Games provide the opportunity to test yourself against your peers in a fun environment,” he said.
Reidy is looking forward to returning to Queensland after running his seventh Gold Coast Marathon in July.
“I’m stoked to be back on the Gold Coast because it always puts on a great event, I can’t wait to see it come alive again this November,” he said.
“How could you not love the Gold Coast?”
While Reidy is known for spending much of his time in the water, he is most confident about competing in the road race, cross country and trail run as part of the athletics – distance running program.
“I’m definitely more of a runner, I just keep up swimming for work,” he said.
“When I’m not competing, you’ll find me hanging out with other masters athletes as they take part in their chosen sports.”
After a day of sport, Reidy will enjoy the nightly entertainment at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre.
“My favourite live act performing is the Hot Potato Band, they’re an amazing live orchestra that are guaranteed to put a smile on your face.”
“I’m excited to be part of all the action. See you there!”
