Despite living more than 4,000 kilometres from Australia, John Halloran from the small island of Guam has not missed a Pan Pacific Masters Games (3 – 11 November) and was once again pitching at the Surfers Paradise Baseball Club today.
The Guam Major League Baseball player is the oldest in his team Valley Power but is regarded as having one of the most lethal arms in the Pan Pacific Masters Games men’s 45+ competition.
“I like playing with these guys and I just love baseball which I’ve been playing since I was a little kid,” said John.
“It’s amazing because it feels as if my arm has been getting stronger over the years and I think the reason for that is because I’ve been taking care of myself and throwing everyday.
“I’ve never had a home run hit against me in the Major Leagues for the past 20 years and I’ve found that some of these guys can’t hit me and I don’t even throw that hard.”
After playing in Little League Baseball growing up in the USA, the 62-year-old took a break and only began playing the sport again in his 40s as a way to stay injury free.
“I played the Little Leagues growing up in Los Angeles and then I didn’t play for around 30 years so maybe that’s what helped me stay in shape,” said John.
“I was playing basketball but gave it up because that’s where all my injuries were taking place, whereas in baseball I’ve had no problems.
“I pride myself on staying in shape because that is the only way I can compete with these guys (at the Pan Pacific Masters Games).”
After three days of competition The Valley Power have won one and lost one and John is confident the team can make the final and bring home a gold medal.
The new system was born here and filagra this is not something that we would like to see. Caverta although better in some elements but not significant for us.
