Norman Park, Queensland local Kevin Murphy is vying to add another triumph to his extensive list of sporting achievements when he competes for his third consecutive gold in judo at this year’s Pan Pacific Masters Games (3 – 11 November).
The 56-year-old has been participating in judo since a young age and has gone on to compete at state and national levels including representing Great Britain at the Commonwealth Judo Championships in 2006.
“I was a schoolboy when I first got into judo. I was invited to have a go by my friend one day and I’ve been participating ever since,” said Kevin.
“My greatest achievement so far would have to be taking home silver at the Commonwealth Judo Championships but if I can take home the third gold medal at the Pan Pacs it may overtake it.”
The University of Queensland Judo Club president and state coach prides himself on passing down his experience and skills to adolescents and adults who want to learn the discipline at both amateur and professional levels.
“It’s great to see my student’s reach their goals in judo and to see some of them compete at national levels,” said Kevin.
“However it’s sometimes more rewarding to the see the students who aren’t looking to reach that level of competition increase their own confidence and progress their skills.
“I also train young people who may have special needs and it’s great to see them develop and compete beyond their restrictions.”
Kevin’s passion for masters judo has seen him engage older participants in the sport in a more closed environment where they can feel confident training and competing.
“A lot of people who compete in judo over the age of 30 suffer from anxiety and lack confidence due to the increased possibility of injury when they train with younger and fitter people,” said Kevin.
“My goal is to create an environment for Masters competitors where they feel less intimidated and more comfortable when they train. I’ve already seen a lot of interest which is great.
“The overall aim is to increase participation levels of Master’s athletes in judo.”
The new scheme was born here and filagra this is not anything that we would like to see. Caverta although better in some elements but not significant for us.
