With 12 months until the 11th Pan Pacific Masters Games are held on the Gold Coast, sport lovers are being encouraged to join thousands of Gold Coast locals, interstate and international visitors in participating in the world-class event from 2 to 11 November 2018.

Held on the Gold Coast every two years since 1998, the 2018 edition is expected to attract over 13,000 participants competing in over 40 sports over 10 days of competition, cementing the event’s status as the world’s biggest and best biennial masters games.

Events Management Queensland CEO Cameron Hart says next year’s games will benefit from the legacy of April’s Commonwealth Games, coincidentally after the masters event played a role in the success of the GC2018 bid.

“Our sports will be utilising five of the GC2018 venues as well as making good use of the upgraded transport infrastructure as participants traverse the Gold Coast during the games,” Mr Hart said.

“Conversely, you could say that the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games have benefitted from the legacy of the Pan Pacific Masters Games when, during the bid process, the masters were used as evidence of the city’s capacity to host mutli-sport events held at a number of venues involving a high number of participants.

“2018 is going to be a really exciting year for the Gold Coast and there’s no better opportunity for locals and visitors to participate in their favourite sport with friends old and new from near and far, while enjoying state-of-the-art facilities.”

Set to attract 35,000 visitors to the Gold Coast, consisting of 6,000 participants from interstate, another 1,000 from overseas and over 4,000 from other parts of Queensland, as well as accompanying persons and spectators, the event is expected to generate 85,000 visitor nights and inject $20 million into the local Queensland economy.

Pan Pacific Masters Games entries are now open.
