Open Water Swimming

Nine years ago Gold Coast swimmer Jane Solomon completed one of the most famous open water swims when she crossed the English Channel and now her eyes are set on the 5km Open Water Swim at the Pan Pacific Masters Games (3 – 11 November) on the Gold Coast.

The 37-year-old Labrador local became the 143rd person to swim the 32 kilometre channel separating England and France in a time of 10 hours and 47 minutes and is sure to have experience on her side at the Pan Pacs.

“I did the English Channel swim in 2003. When I did the swim I already had about five years experience of open water swimming and plenty of training,” said Jane.

“When you stand on the beach facing the Channel you know that today is the day and there is simply no turning back.

“The swim itself went quite quick and was actually enjoyable despite being in so much pain.”

Jane had been a swimmer all her life but made the switch to open water swimming after being asked by her friends to help them swim the Round Jersey in the UK.

“After I retired from normal swimming my friends had asked if I would like to join them in the Round Jersey open water swim relay to help make up the numbers,” said Jane.

“As soon as I jumped in the water I fell in love with it.

“We completed the 48 mile swim in 10 hours and 15 minutes. I later took it on solo and completed it in 10 hours and 39 minutes.”

The Southport School swimming trainer said her major goal is to swim the Loch Ness Island 19km swim in February next year and saw the Pan Pacs as a great chance to train for the big swim.

“I’ve entered the Pan Pacs mainly because I’m still training six times a week and when you are training that often you need a goal to aim for,” said Jane.

“This will be my fourth time at the event and I would love a gold medal but in the back of my mind I know my training has been targeted at endurance rather than the shorter five kilometre race.

“It’s going to be perfect for me anyway because there aren’t many local competitions where you can walk to the event from your own home.”

The new system was born here and filagra this is not something that we would like to see. Caverta although better in some elements but not important for us.
