Thursday night saw tenpin bowling crown their new King and Queen. In what has become a tradition of the opening ceremony at the tenpin bowling competition, a King and Queen is crowed through a lucky draw.
Luck has been on Gabriele Gesler’s side for the past six years as last night saw her crowned the Queen of the tournament for the third time in a row.
“Third time in a row, don’t ask me how,” Gabriele quipped.
Gabriele has travelled from Ipswich to the Gold Coast for every Jupiters Pan Pacific Masters Games since the inaugural event in 1996.
“I wouldn’t miss it! Once every two years I’m down here.”
Despite not bowling at home in Ipswich for several years, Gabriele has the Masters Games pencilled in on her calendar every two years.
“The Masters Games is something I don’t want to miss,” Gabriele said.
“I haven’t bowled since the last Masters Games and before that I haven’t really bowled in a league since the 2011 floods that took out the Ipswich Bowls.”
Despite her lack of playing time, Gabriele is simply happy to be in the lanes enjoying the atmosphere. Like everyone she says she has some good and some bad games but generally she is happy with her performance so far.
“Not too bad this time round, I’m quite happy with what I’ve bowled, given it’ s been two years since I’ve picked up a bowling ball,” said Gabriele.
The King of this year’s tenpin bowling Jupiters Pan Pacific Masters Games is Mike Powers from Western Australia. Like Gabriele, Mike has been attending the Masters Games since their inception in 1996, however this is the first time he has taken out the crown.
The te pin bowling competition is set to heat up over the weekend at AMF Bowling at Robina.
