The Hickson family of four today (Tuesday 8 November) stepped out for a day on the green at the Jupiters Pan Pacific Masters Games.
For Peter, 85, and his wife Ray, 82, and their son Stephen, 62, and his wife Karen, 58, this is the family’s third time competing together at the masters games bowls event.
“It’s a great competition, you get to meet a lot of new fresh faces,” Ray said.
“We usually just play in a local team at Canungra, but the masters games allows us to meet people from all around Australia.”
For the Hicksons it’s more than just about the game, it’s an opportunity to come together as a family.
“We make a family event of it each year, because my son and daughter-in-law are from Melbourne,” Ray said.
“It’s good to get together as a family team.”
“There are honestly not many sports where you can have your mother, father and wife in one team,” Stephen said.
The family of four will compete over the next few days with the hope of taking home a medal.
“I would just really love to get a medal for mum and dad,” Stephen said.
The 10th biennial Jupiter’s Pan Pacific Masters Games are being held 5-13 November 2016 on the beautiful Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia.
The world’s biggest and best biennial masters games showcase competition in 43 teams and individual sports and attract more than 13,000 participants from Queensland, interstate and overseas.
