New Zealand’s Dempster family experienced a family reunion with a twist when they all met on the polocrosse field for the 2012 Pan Pacific Masters Games this weekend.
Neil, 72, and Bronwyn, 65, Dempster made the trek from New Zealand to compete in their third Masters polocrosse competition.
“Our whole family has represented New Zealand in polocrosse, it’s just a great way to keep fit and active,” said Bronwyn.
“It’s a great family sport, and with the girls now living here (in New South Wales and Queensland) with their partners it’s a great reason to come and see them as well.”
Bronwyn recalled a time when polocrosse didn’t even exist.
“I actually learnt to play polocrosse on the Gold Coast in the 1960s,” said Bronwyn.
“At the time we hadn’t even heard of it in New Zealand. I was working at St Vincent’s Primary School as a teacher when I was introduced to it.
“Neil changed from polo to polocrosse so we could all take part in it, and by the time the children were around the age of five or six they were competitively involved in the sport.”
Bronwyn spoke about how the game she learned to play nearly 40 years ago has brought her extended family together.
“It’s funny how it all works out. I only knew one person prior to this weekend, which is Laura’s (her daughter) partner’s mum,” said Bronwyn.
“We actually used to compete against each other when Laura was only two, now 20 years later we’re playing together on the same team.”
Neil and Bronwyn competed throughout the weekend in the Saints and Daisy Train teams respectively, with Bronwyn finishing with silver in today’s (Sunday) final.
Although they don’t head home until Tuesday, Bronwyn and Neil are already planning their next Australian holiday.
The new system was born here and filagra this is not anything that we would like to see. Caverta although better in some elements but not momentous for us.
