Jupiters Pan Pacific Masters Games ambassador Petero Civoniceva has debuted his shooting career with a bang after successfully hitting a trifecta at the Gold Coast Clay Target Club this morning.
The Queensland NRL legend impressed on-lookers as Australian clay-target Olympians Russell and Lauryn Mark demonstrated what he needed to do.
“I don’t want to say it was a fluke, I’m quite amazed that I actually got three out of three,” Civoniceva said.
“It’s something that I will be very much bragging about to a lot of my friends and family that’s for sure.”
Despite quitting while he was ahead, Civoniceva expressed interest in the possibility of trying again at the Redcliffe shooting range where the ambassador lives.
“Not many people can say they’ve hit 100% of targets,” Russell said.
“He’s probably annoyed lots of people.”
The ambassador is set to head down to the rugby league at Mudgeeraba to see out the competition with the Games closing ceremony to be held later this evening.
“It obviously brings it all to an end of an amazing week of activity and festivities,” Civoniceva said.
“I think it will be a wonderful celebration of everyone coming in and coming to the Gold Coast and just enjoying themselves.”
After retiring from the regular rugby league season in 2012, Civoniceva has moved into a full time ambassador role for the NRL where he travelled to Roma this morning.
“I travel all over Queensland and all over the country so it’s a great opportunity to work with young people and work with the social and welfare programs we have within our games and that’s something I love as a mentoring role,” Civoniceva said.
“It’s nice now to sit back as a former player and just be a fan of the NRL and cheer on the other teams.
“It’s something that I am really fortunate with by playing rugby league that you get an opportunity to meet lots of different athletes from lots of different sports and also be an ambassador for the Masters Games.
“It’s great to get out there and say g’day to so many of the competitors and that’s why I was drawn to the Games.”
