It comes as no surprise that the ‘Cowboys’ men’s water polo team swam away with the gold medal in the Men’s 45 + division at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre.
The team based out of Melbourne’s Collegian Water Polo Club hosts a star-studded lineup boasting eight national players.
In the mix areAussie Sharks co-captain Blake Edwards who has just wrapped up his Paris Olympic campaign and Water Polo Hall of Famer, John Fox, a 1988 and 1992 Olympian and Aussie men’s water polo coach.
The Cowboys is filled with players in their 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s.
“Most of us have been playing water polo for more than 30 years,” said team captain, Nathan Pratt.
The name ‘Cowboys’ came from rounding up and reaching out to players from around the country to join the team.
“The highlight of PPMG, for me, has been to play water polo, then getting to have a few beers, chill out and tell old stories of how good we were!” said Fox.
“It’s been a great event to be a part of…we’re already discussing the next one.”
