Australian tenpin bowling representative Steve Solman began the competition with a strike as he warms up for a big week ahead at the Jupiters Pan Pacific Masters Games (JPPMG) at Go Bowling Ashmore.
The 59-year-old bowling veteran from Jimboomba, Queensland, will be aiming to bowl a 300 game this week as he participates in singles, doubles and trios in all age groups over the course of the JPPMG.
Steve has been bowling for 44 years and represented Australia in the World Tenpin Masters in Canada, ranking fourth.
“I started in the junior ranks as a 15-year-old and worked my way up. I have competed in Singapore, Thailand and most of the world but I haven’t competed in New Zealand yet,” Steve said.
Steve has competed in the Jupiters Pan Pacific Masters Games since the beginning and loves coming to the event for the Camaraderie.
“It is one of those things that every two years you come and meet old friends and even make new ones. It’s great to see people and you hope they come back,” Steve said.
“I felt fantastic this morning, I couldn’t wait. My goal for today is to just bowl my natural game.”
Steve showed off his skills this morning when bowling consecutive strikes.
“I stretch a bit before I bowl but the main thing for me is just rhythm,” he said.
“I always get a little bit nervous when competing or representing in a team event, you try and do your best for them.
“I am a competitor and I love the sport so that’s why I am here.”
The tenpin bowling competition continues on Wednesday 9th until Sunday 13th November.
The 10th biennial Jupiters Pan Pacific Masters Games is being held 5 – 13 November 2016 on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia.
The event showcases competition in 43 sports and is hosting 13,000 participants from Queensland, interstate and overseas.
