Today’s mixed fours competition at the lawn bowls is a family affair for the Hickson family.
Stephen and Karen Hickson have travelled up from Melbourne for their second Jupiters Pan Pacific Masters Games to participate in lawn bowls with Stephen’s parents Peter and Ray Hickson.
“We’ve come up for the last two, just to play bowls with Mum and Dad,” Stephen said.
Although the family is taking their lawn bowls competition seriously, Stephen admitted spending time with his family was the highlight.
“We just come up to play as a family team,” Stephen said.
The Hickson’s have a busy playing schedule during the lawn bowls competition entering several events.
“We played in mixed pairs yesterday and the mixed fours today and then Mum, my wife and I will play in the triples,” Stephen said.
Stephen’s parents Peter, 83 and Ray, 80 have been playing lawn bowls for many years and relish the chance to play with their family.
“We’re both over 80 and still playing bowls,” Ray stated.
“We’re here to take part, that’s the main thing.”
The lawn bowls competition continues until Sunday 9th November at the Southport Bowls Club.
