The sport of judo is once again gaining popularity and is it any wonder when watching the sporting prowess and skill involved at this year’s Jupiters Pan Pacific Masters Games competition.
For the uninitiated, the objectives of judo are to either throw or take down an opponent to the ground, immobilise or subdue an opponent by pinning them, or forcing an opponent to submit by joint lock or ab choke hold.
Sounds tough, nasty and just a little terrifying, but talking to the gentle giants of the sport you soon learn that it is the discipline of this very skilful sport that attracts most of its competitors.
Michael Kortt is a mild mannered senior lecturer in applied economics by day, judo master and expert fighter by night.
Having mastered the sport when he was younger, Michael has just made a return to the sport after a lengthy absence.
“It is actually a really nice outlet, a nice compliment to my academic work during the day”, he explained.
Training out of the PCYC at Tweed Heads here on the Gold Coast, Michael expressed his delight at being able to compete.
“I train under (sport convenor) Campbell Dunstan so the opportunity to compete here was perfect, I have been training for it now for about six weeks,” said Michael
The judo competition is a one day only event with all medals being awarded this afternoon at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The new scheme was born here and filagra this is not anything that we would like to see. Caverta although better in some elements but not significant for us.
