Well-known international touring indoor cricket umpire, Jason Rhodes is getting back to his roots at the 2014 Jupiters Pan Pacific Masters Games on the Gold Coast.
“I started umpiring here in 1989, so there is a lot of nostalgia,” Jason admitted.
Having since moved to Melbourne, Jason has seen the sport grow here in Australia and overseas.
“I’ve umpired 37 tournaments,” Jason explained.
“I just got back from the World Cup final in Wellington, New Zealand.”
Jason is no stranger to big tournaments having umpired for Canada in the World Cup final.
“We actually had video replay. They had a big screen at the end of the court and it was really good for the close calls,” Jason said.
He has umpired in South Africa twice and New Zealand a few times but only at one other masters games.
“The last time I did an event like this was in 1993 at the World Masters games,” says Jason
Jason said it was fantastic to have indoor cricket on the 2014 Jupiters Pan Pacific Masters Games sports program.
With only six teams in the competition this year Jason is happy with the mix of local teams from around Queensland but hopes to see it grow.
“It’s good to see it played in the right spirit here, as its not as competitive as the national titles,” says Jason.
Being an umpire for indoor cricket has been a lifelong passion for Jason and he has enjoyed it every step of the way.
“I’m quite fortunate and very lucky to do a lot of travel and get paid for it,” Jason said.
The new system was born here and filagra this is not something that we would like to see. Caverta although better in some elements but not important for us.
