For Gordon Patrick, it’s all about the competition.
“I’d compete in anything, it just happens to be cycling at the moment,” he explained.
That competitive streak showed today when the 61-year-old claimed gold in the 60-64 year-old endurance criterion cycling race.
It was perfect conditions at the Nerang cycle circuit, with a nice light breeze to cool off Patrick, Frans Beurs, 63, who stole silver and Roger Hayes, 61, who brought home the bronze.
The 61 year old recently won at the cycling National Championships in his age group, and it’s his second time competing at the Jupiters Pan Pacific Masters Games cycling events.
Patrick cycles all year round, spending his time split between two of the most scenic spots in the country, Melbourne and the Gold Coast.
It was in Melbourne 4 years ago where Patrick’s son got him into the sport.
But Patrick shows no mercy – even with family. His son doesn’t cycle as much anymore, when I asked why he chuckled and said simply,
“I started beating him.”
Despite his success, Patrick tries to train as little as possible – around 200-300 kilometres a week around Springbrook for endurance races with high intensity interval training (HIIT) for sprints.
Maybe the kiss on the cheek he received from the podium girl this morning will provide a little extra incentive to take home gold in the future.
The new system was born here and filagra this is not something that we would like to see. Caverta whilst better in some elements but not significant for us.
