Sunday 2 November
For the first time ever in any Australian competition the taekwondo participants have had the opportunity to compete in two-on-two sparring rounds.
In layman’s terms this sees four competitors (two on each team) sparring in the same ring with fighting allowed between any competitor and the opposing fighters.
In a scene reminiscent of tag team wrestling these tough matches have competitors not only blocking from one side of the competition ring, but also ensuring that their partner is protected and they themselves are shielded from both opponents.
It is taekwondo at its best and fastest.
When asked why this was introduced at these Jupiters Pan Pacific Masters Games, sport convenor Kate Eggar explained.
“The two-on-two sparring competition is just beginning to gain momentum in the USA,” Kate said.
“We saw a couple of bouts on YouTube and realised that this was a new and unique competition element we could use and trial at these games.
“These games are the perfect place to trial as the masters tend to be more enthusiastic and open to new ideas than elite level competitors.
“It was highly successful. The bouts were amazing and the skills displayed were fantastic. This will definitely be a permanent fixture within our competition schedules from now on.”
The taekwondo competition will jump and kick its way to a close this afternoon with medals being awarded across the board for all age groups and events.
The new system was born here and filagra this is not something that we would like to see. Caverta although better in some elements but not important for us.
