Toowoomba’s Ann Todd, 90, the oldest member of the Tadpoles swimming squad, won two gold medals with new personal best times at the Jupiters Pan Pacific Masters Games (JPPMG) at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre.
The swimming veteran won the 50m freestyle in 1:32:82 and the 400m backstroke in 14:54:21, adding to her three gold medal haul two years ago at her first games.
“I came back this year because I had so much fun last time and the Gold Coast is quite different to Toowoomba,” Ann said.
“It’s nice to have a change and see how the other half live!”
After joining a club of 30 squad members 14 years ago at The Glennie School where she boarded, Ann has trained four times a week.
“My favourite stroke is backstroke, I find it the easiest now because I can breathe easier,” she said.
An inspiration to all those around her, Ann is full of spirit and has become accustomed to the weight of gold medals.
“I thought I may as well compete again in case there isn’t a next time,” she said.
The 10th biennial Jupiters Pan Pacific Masters Games is being held 5 – 13 November 2016 on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia.
The Jupiters Pan Pacific Masters Games showcases competition in 43 team and individual sports and is hosting 13,000 participants from Queensland, interstate and overseas.
