It only took one email from former New Zealand international water polo player Gerard Wilkinson to convince his champion side to take on the competition once again at this year’s Pan Pacific Masters Games on the Gold Coast.

Making their second appearance at the event are Cavaliers who boast a side brimming with former water polo, rugby union and football internationals including five players from across the Tasman Sea.

Team Manager and Gold Coast local Gerard Wilkinson said after their success at the 2010 Pan Pacific Masters Games they couldn’t resist the urge to return, compete and have some fun.

“I just sent out a big email to all the boys saying come over again after we won our age group in 2010,” said Gerard.

“It’s an enjoyable experience catching up with these guys as we’ve been playing together in some form of sport since our 20s and 30s.”

The team includes current Chairman of Canterbury Water Polo Lachlan Marshall, former New Zealand and Australian water polo representative Mark Grooby and former New Zealand soccer goalkeeper Keith Brodie among other notable sporting figures.

The team proved too strong in their dominating but playful 17–1 win over the THS Old Boys in the men’s 40+ competition at the Southport Olympic Swimming Pool.

Gerard admitted the team was feeling nervous before the game but their emphatic victory overshadowed any concerns they had as they attempt to reclaim back-to-back gold medals.

“A lot of the guys got nervous before the game because they hadn’t swum or competed for a very long time,” said Gerard.

“It would be nice to win a gold medal this year but I think we are up against a younger side next game so they will certainly push us a bit.”

Cavaliers will take on THS Old Boys again tomorrow (3 November) at 1pm followed by a game against Nobblers at 3pm, with all action at the Southport Olympic Swimming Pool.

The new system was born here and filagra this is not something that we would like to see. Caverta whilst better in some elements but not significant for us.
