Events Management Queensland today announced the appointment of Nick Lovelock as Events Operations Manager for the three events it owns and manages – the annual Gold Coast Airport Marathon, biennial Pan Pacific Masters Games and biennial Great Barrier Reef Masters Games.

Events Management Queensland General Manager Cameron Hart said Mr Lovelock brings more than 20 years of event management experience and knowledge to the senior role.

“Mr Lovelock has a wealth of experience in event management including previous roles at Jupiters Hotel and Casino, Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre and ExpoNet where he made significant contributions to major indoor and outdoor events,” Mr Hart said.

“We have associated with him previously as a stakeholder and we’re thrilled to have him on our team as we lead into the annual Gold Coast Airport Marathon in July, the biennial Pan Pacific Masters Games in November and next year’s biennial Great Barrier Reef Masters Games in August.

“He will be responsible for the management of all operational facets of our three mass participation sporting events including the supervision of a small permanent operations team which expands greatly over event periods.

“He is an excellent team player who has a positive and energetic attitude towards delivering Queensland three world class sporting participation events.”

Mr Lovelock said he had always wanted to work for Events Management Queensland having experienced their events first hand as both a participant and stakeholder.

“I’ve been associated with their events for a number of years and I’ve always wanted to work with their team,” Mr Lovelock said.

“I’ve run a few half marathons at the Gold Coast Airport Marathon and contributed to the Pan Pacific Masters Games on a number of occasions. The vibe and energy of these events is second to none.

“The current structure of all three events works incredibly well, so my aim is to make the event experience for all participants, sponsors, stakeholders and spectators as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

“I’m really excited to contribute to the existing expertise and play a role in the planning and delivery of these distinguished events which are paramount to Queensland’s sport and tourism economy.”

In 2014, the Gold Coast Airport Marathon will be held from 5 – 6 July and the biennial Pan Pacific Masters Games from 1 – 9 November. The biennial Great Barrier Reef Masters Games will be held in August 2015 in Tropical North Queensland. Combined they are set to attract more than 40,000 participants from every state in Australia and close to 50 countries.
