100-days-to-go

Thursday 28 July

Today marks 100 days until the start of the 10th edition of the Jupiters Pan Pacific Masters Games to be held on the Gold Coast.

From 5 to 13 November, over 13,000 participants from each state and territory of Australia, as well as visitors from more than 20 overseas countries, will take part in 44 sports during 10 days of competition while contributing to an estimated economic impact greater than $19 million.

Sport will be played at a number of the region’s world-class venues including two of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games locales, the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre and Coomera Indoor Sports Centre.

In 100 days, masters will be present both on and off the field when a swag of legendary Australian entertainers including Ross Wilson, Angry Anderson and Sean Kelly grace the stage as part of the live nightly entertainment program hosted by Jupiters Gold Coast and the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Also providing entertainment to participants during the event will be a host of games ambassadors engaging with competitors at the sports venues, in the Games Village and everywhere in between.

The 2016 Jupiters Pan Pacific Masters Games ambassadors include 2000 Sydney Olympics gold medalist Hockeyroos captain Nikki Hudson OAM; 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games heptathlon gold medalist Glynis Nunn-Cearns OAM; Wimbledon, Australian Open and US Open doubles winner Geoff Masters; Australian female marathon record holder Benita Willis; three-time Brisbane Broncos NRL Premiership winner Petero Civoniceva; and 1990 Auckland, 1994 Victoria and 1998 Kuala Lumpur Commonwealth Games representative Pat Carroll.

Events Management Queensland CEO Cameron Hart said the Jupiters Pan Pacific Masters Games provides an opportunity for the over 30s to play their favourite sport and enjoy their much-loved bands and entertainers while in a region which is famous for fun.

“The event allows both former champions and those who never quite made it to compete side-by-side in a friendly environment where no qualification is required,” Mr Hart said.

“Once the referee has blown the final whistle, opponents instantly become friends and the Games Village is buzzing with the camaraderie for which the event is renowned.

“Throw in some world-famous beaches, a lush hinterland and an idyllic spring climate and you have a recipe for a memorable experience in Queensland.”

The Jupiters Pan Pacific Masters Games is supported by the Queensland Government, through Tourism and Events Queensland and is promoted as part of the It’s Live! in Queensland marketing platform.

The Jupiters Pan Pacific Masters Games will be held 5 – 13 November 2016.

Early bird fees finish Wednesday 31 August 2016 (11:59pm AEST).
